Course Repetition where the Student Received a Satisfactory Grade

21 November 2016

Submit the  Course Repetition to the Vice President of Student Services or Administrative designee for approval.

A student earning a satisfactory grade may not enroll in the same course again unless one of the following exceptions applies:

  • Repeat a course previously successfully passed because it “is necessary to meet a legally mandated training requirement as a condition of continued paid or volunteer employment” or because “of a significant change in industry or licensure standards” (The grade shall be included for purposes of calculating the PCCD grade point average.) ** [Title 5, section 55040, 55041]. Attach necessary documentation.
  • Repeat a course previously successfully passed because “another institution of higher education to which the student seeks to transfer has established a recency requirement which the student will not be able to satisfy without repeating the course in question.” (Only the second grade shall be included for purposes of calculating the PCCD grade point average and unit totals.) ** [Title 5, section 55043]. Attach necessary documentation.
  • Repeat a course previously completed because of “extenuating circumstances”. Extenuating circumstances are verified cases of accidents, illness, or other circumstances beyond the control of the student. (The highest grade shall be included for purposes of calculating the PCCD GPA and unit totals). ** [Title 5, 55045]. Attach necessary documentation.
  • Repeat a course previously successfully completed because of a “significant lapse” of time which Peralta defined as three (3) years. Only one additional repetition due to significant lapse of time is permitted. Only the second grade and units are counted in the GPA and unit totals. [Title 5, 55043]. Please attach necessary documentation.
