      Public Meeting: Invitation for Public Comments on Peralta Community College District’s Redistricting Process, New Alternative

      You are invited to provide comments on a new, fifth Redistricting Alternative for the Peralta Community College District’s Redistricting Process.  Four alternatives have previously been reviewed by the public at several community meetings, and a fifth alternative has been prepared for consideration and public review. The new Alternative, developed in response to public comments from the original four alternatives, will be introduced at the September 27th Board of Trustees Meeting, 7 p.m. at the District Offices, 333 East 8th Street, Oakland, 94606.  For more information on redistricting, CLICK HERE!

          Peralta News – Free College of Alameda Estuary Shuttle Bus

          On August 15 a new free estuary shuttle bus was unveiled at the College of Alameda. The shuttle bus links Laney College to the College of Alameda and has three stops: Lake Merritt BART station, the College of Alameda and Marina Village (an Alameda satellite campus), doing so about every 30 minutes.             PASSIONS, PROVOCATIONS & PROPHECIES–Pasolini & the Revolutionary Poets

            On the anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s death, you are invited to a reading of poetry and prose on war, resistance, and revolution.

            Featuring: translators reading from “In Danger: A Pasolini Anthology,” (City Lights, 2010) and writers reading from the “Revolutionary Poets Brigade Anthology” (Caza de Poesia, 2010).

            Tuesday, November 1st, 7-9pm, Berkeley City College auditorium

            Authors and Translators include: Jack Hirschman, Sharon Doubiago, Dee Allen, Judith Ayn Bernhard, Susanna Bonetti, Agneta Falk, Steven Gray, Devorah Major and Jonathan Richman

            FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

            This event is part of BCC’s SORROWS OF WAR/STRUGGLES FOR PEACE Project.

            Funded by a Peralta Colleges Foundation Faculty Grant and Co-sponsored by BCC’s Department of Arts and Cultural Studies and the Italian Studies Program at the University of California, Berkeley.

            “In Danger: A Pasolini Anthology” – edited by Jack Hirschman, is an anthology of political and war-time writings by Pier Paolo Pasolini, the renowned Italian poet, educator, filmmaker, and writer.

            “The Revolutionary Poets Brigade Anthology” – a multilingual anthology of engaged poetry on themes of cultural resistance and political commitment.

              WRCBAA Fall 2011 Regional Conference in Las Vegas

              The Peralta Association for African American Affairs (PAAAA) is a member of the Western Region Council on Black American Affairs (WRCBAA).

              The Western Region of the National Council on Black American Affairs (WRCBAA) is an official regional body of the National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) which is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

              WRCBAA serves as a collaborative voice, promoting the academic success of African American students and the development and advancement of faculty, staff and administrators that work together for a common cause–effective educational opportunities and employment for African-Americans within community college systems, and is committed to ensuring that a quality higher education is available to all students.

                  HBCU Recruitment Fair at Laney College

                  The 2011-12 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Recruitment Fair is a collaborative partnership between Laney College, Oakland Unified School District, and U-Can.  Last year, the HBCU Recruitment Fair drew in over 2,500 people.  This is a great opportunity to expose and potentially stimulate our students thinking about their options.

                        PTVSports – Merritt College Track Club at the 3rd Annual Maurice Compton Invitational

                        Cameras were rolling and athletes were in full force at the 3rd Annual Maurice Compton Invitational held at Merritt College this year. PTVSports and Lex Gopnik caught up with Coach Brock Drazen, Merritt College Athletic Director and the Merritt T-Birds Track & Field Team for a quick recap. PTVSports is still the The Sports Authority for the Peralta Colleges.

                          Welcome to Board Spotlight, a brief recap of the biweekly meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Peralta Community College District.

                          With the end of the summer semester, The Board of Trustees held their final meeting before the recess. They received a report from Stephanie Casenza of the Peralta Colleges Foundation. The Board honored outgoing Peralta Federation of Teachers president Debra Weintraub for years of work. And they debated the structuring of the Retirement Board.

                          The Peralta Board of Trustees meet the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Past meetings are available for viewing on the internet at peraltaccd.granicus.com
