The 2011-2012 Laney College Lady Eagles Basketball Squad are in position for another run at the State Championship crown. Under the direction of Head Coach Ron Williams, the Lady Eagles are Bay Valley Conference Champions and have been in the tournament the last 3 years. However this year, the team may have what it takes to bring a banner to Oakland, CA. Support the Lady Eagles as they begin the quest for a State Championship.

Renowned UC physicist and author, Dr. Richard A. Muller, to speak at 6:30 p.m., Thur., Mar. 1 at Berkeley City College
“Energy and Clmate: Surprising Things You Need to Know,” is set for 6:30-8 p.m., Thur., Mar. 1, at Berkeley City College’s auditorium, 2050 Center St., between Shattuck Ave. & Milvia St. The presentation will be given by Dr. Richard A. Muller, renowned professor of physics at U.C. Berkeley and faculty senior scientist at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by BCC’s Department of Science and the college’s Science Club. It is part of a five-part Spring Science Seminar Series. Dr. Muller will discuss the latest scientific developments on international climate change and how the world can best prepare for them.
He is founder and chair of the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) Project and a recipient of the MacArthur Genius Fellowship. He also was named as one of The Atlantic Monthly’s Brave Thinkers. Muller’s numerous books and articles include The Instant Physicist: An Illustrated Guide and the popular Physics For Future Presidents.

Laney College Women’s Basketball & Baseball

The Laney College women’s basketball team defeated Mendocino College 72-34 on Feb. 17 at Laney to win the Bay Valley Conference championship.
The Eagles (24-6) are seeded ninth in the Northern California Regionals and play AT No. 8 Consumnes River in Sacramento on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
The Laney College baseball team plays host to Skyline College of San Bruno TODAY at 2 p.m. The Eagles are 6-2 while the Trojans (0-7) are ranked No. 20 in Northern California. The Eagles are not ranked. Go figure.

The Valentines Day meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees started with a call by the Stop the Swap Coalition to take an aggressive stance with Morgan Stanley. Educational Services presented data from the mandated Accountability Reporting for the Community Colleges (ARCC). And proposed changes in Peralta’s policy regarding free speech received criticism from the Board.
