The June 11 meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees featured the swearing-in of 2 newly elected Student Trustees. Next, the Board recognized Dr. Jacob Ng for his 24 years of service to the District. Following that, the Board was presented with the tentative 2013-2014 budget by Vice Chancellor Gerhard. And finally, College of Alameda President, Dr. Jannette Jackson, made the announcement that she will be leaving to become the new Chancellor for Chabot-Las Positas College District.
The May 14 meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees featured successful former students supporting the Student Ambassador program at Berkeley City College. Next, a presentation on Part-Time Faculty and Student Success. And finally, a recognition of outgoing Student Trustees Brian Cervantes and Sharon Clegg.
The April 23, 2013 meeting began with calls for increased support for our Veteran students. The Peralta Student Council asked for the expansion of the student leadership program at College of Alameda. And Interim Vice Chancellor of Educational Services Mike Orkin presented a report on using high school grades to predict student success.
The April 9 meeting began with the call for increased Classified staffing throughout the District. This was followed by an upbeat report on the District-wide Peralta Student Council. The March 26 meeting began with a positive actuarial report by Vice Chancellor Ron Gerhard. Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Calvin Madlock delivered a progress report on the implementation of the IT Strategic Plan. And the Board of Trustees voted to increase their support of the Peralta Colleges Foundation.
The March 12 meeting began by honoring our four newly tenured professors. James Blake, President of the Classified Senate, called for developing standards on the ratio of Classified staff to students. And the Board received a report and discussion of the updated Laney College Facilities Master Plan.
The February 26 meeting of thew Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees began with announcement from Romeo Garcia of the Peralta Colleges Foundation about upcoming scholarship opportunities. Chancellor José M. Ortiz reported back from a community event at Laney College. And Trustees raised tough questions about the 860 Atlantic Ave project in Alameda.
The February 12, 2013 meeting of the Board of Trustees started with an extensive discussion of the Financial Aid situation. While many acknowledged progress has been made, too many of our students still struggle to navigate the system. Vice Chancellor of Academic Services Michael Orkin provided a positive report on our enrollment numbers. And finally, a spirited discussion of a Board Policy regarding political activity. The January 23, 2013 meeting of the Peralta Board of Trustees received an anonymous donation of $250,000 to the Peralta Colleges Foundation. Numerous voices called for the re-hiring of Student Advisors. And Vice Chancellor of Finance Ron Gerhard presented the Governor’s budget proposal. The December 11 Annual Organizational Meeting began with the swearing in ceremony for incoming trustees. This was followed by the announcement of two new College Presidents. The District received the Annual Audit report. And finally, a presentation about the Title III grant program at Merritt College.
The November 13 meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees started with upbeat messages about the recent election results. Followed by an inspiring presentation about efforts to support our undocumented students. And our new Associate Chancellor of Information Technology defines some recommended upgrades.
The October meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees started with the announcement of a LEED Gold award for the Solar installation at the new Laney Athletic complex. Next up, our lobbyist in Sacramento provided a legislative update, stressing the importance of proposition 30. And finally, College of Alameda professor Diana Bajrami reported on the development of Student Learning Outcomes mandated by the Accreditation Board.

The September 11, 2012 meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees began with a presentation from Vice Chancellor Ron Gerhard and the adoption of the 2012-2013 budget. Linda Handy promotes the Peralta delegation to the Congressional Black Caucus, and new Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology provides and early assessment and highlights the need for outside support.
The June 26 meeting of the Peralta Colleges began honoring outgoing Chancellor Wise Allen. This was followed by the Annual Report from the Citizens’ Measure A Bond Oversight Committee. And finally, the Board adopted the Tentative 2012-2013 Budget.
The June 12 meeting started off with the swearing in of our new Student Trustees Sharon Clegg and Brian Cervantes. Next up, a Study Session on Financial Aid, and then a presentation on the Laney Sustainability Center. The Board presented a proclamation honoring Congresswoman Barbara Lee for her continued support of the Peralta Colleges. The Board received a check for their participation in the Oakland Shines program and heard of the 2012 – 2013 Tentative Budget. Lastly, the Board announced the finalization of the contract for Peralta’s new Chancellor, Dr. Jose Ortiz.
