Peralta News – Cassandra Beverly, Merritt College Student

                        24 August 2011. 0 comments

Every year, Phi Theta Kappa honors the top 20 community college students nationwide with a $2500 scholarship to continue their education. A rigorous selection process narrows the 1600 students nominated by their professors to the final 20 honorees. Winners are selected based on a combination of academic achievement and community service.

This year Cassandra Beverly, a Paralegal Studies student from Merritt College, was one of the winners. She will use her scholarship to continue her education at University of San Francisco next year and plans to eventually pursue a Masters Degree in Public Administration so she can help others attain similar success. We at the Peralta Colleges are very proud of Cassandra’s achievement!

                          24 August 2011. 0 comments

Jurena Storm is the outgoing Student Trustee of the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees. She has recently graduated from the College of Alameda with a degree in Political Science and will continue her studies in the fall at UC Berkeley.

Jurena moved to California from Oklahoma, with the goal of attending UC Berkeley. She began her academic journey at College of Alameda, thriving in the personalized attention available at that small campus. A counselor recommended student politics as a way for Jurena to become involved in helping her fellow students. She is now committed to helping others navigate the system of public service to get the help they need and deserve. Thank you Jurena for helping your community.
