Board Spotlight: 12 MAR 2013

The March 12 meeting began by honoring our four newly tenured professors. James Blake, President of the Classified Senate, called for developing standards on the ratio of Classified staff to students. And the Board received a report and discussion of the updated Laney College Facilities Master Plan.

    Peralta Colleges Flex Day activities for Fall 2012 will take place at Laney College on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.  There is a full day of exciting programs and informative workshops and everyone is encouraged to participate.

    The day’s events, beginning at the Laney College Theatre, include:

    • 9:00 a.m. Welcome by Tamika Brown, District Staff Development Officer
    • 9:15 a.m. Introduction by Dr. Elñora Tena Webb, Laney College President
    • 9:30 a.m. State of The District Address by Dr. José M. Ortiz, Chancellor
    • 10:00 a.m. Shared Governance and Union Leaders Presentations by Karolyn Van Putten, DAS President; Matthew Goldstein, PFT President; James Blake, Classified President; and Abigail Brewer, Local 1021 Representative
    •  10:15 a.m. State of the Budget by Ron Gerhard, Vice Chancellor, Budget and Finance
    • 10:30 a.m. “Don’t Isolate, Integrate! Empowering & Engaging Students” by Seattle Central Community College Consultants and Co-Presenters
    • 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m. Working Lunch, District-Wide Discipline Meetings, Laney E Building

     Afternoon workshops include:

    • 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. All Disciplines Integrated Learning Hands-On Workshop, Laney Bistro; All Disciplines Curriculum Review Workshop, Laney F-170; Benefits Fair, Laney Cafeteria
    • 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. Career Technical Education Programs, District Office Boardroom
    • 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tenure Review Orientation, Laney E Building
