College of Alameda A-Tech Student Richard Saeparn Wins Ozzie Day Scholarship

21 April 2016

IMG_0803Richard Saeparn, a third-year student in the Auto Technology Program at the College of Alameda, has been awarded this year’s Ozzie Day Scholarship.

Richard had already started a career as an Air Force Reserve Ground Equipment Technician when he made the choice to begin the A-Tech Program at the College of Alameda. Since he was used to 12 hour days in the Air Force, Richard jumped full steam into the A-Tech Program and often attended classes 9 hours a day, five days a week. Not only was he taking classes, but for most of the last two years, he has worked as a student aide to help other students! And all the while, he has maintained his Air Force Reserve status by continuing his Air Force training and certifications. He is currently looking at opportunities with Honda, Toyota or Tesla when he graduates in May.

The Ozzie Day Scholarship is a $500 scholarship, which is awarded by the A-Tech Department each semester to the student with the highest grade point average and the most units in the A-Tech Program. The scholarship was set up in memory of Ozzie Day, the founder of Automotive Engineering and a long-time member of the COA Automotive Advisory Committee.
