Peralta Association of African American Affairs 18th Annual Scholarship Awards Reception

The Peralta Association of African American Affairs will host its 18th Annual Scholarship Awards Reception on Friday, May 6, at 5:30 p.m., in the atrium of the Peralta Community College District offices, 333 E. 8th Street, in Oakland.

Since 1998, PAAAA has distributed over  $70,000 to Peralta students who are matriculating from the community colleges to four-year institutions in California and across the country.

This year, eight students from all four of the Peralta Colleges will be honored for their academic success and for their service to the community.

We invite and encourage you to support our 2016 scholarship recipients by attending this event. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased at the door.

Peralta Matters – Achievement Gap

This month on Peralta Matters, we’re investigating some of the ways we address the Achievement Gap here at the Peralta Colleges. First up, Interim Dean of Student Success and Equity Lasana Hotep talks about some of the projects he is developing District-wide. Laney College student Kevin Sosa describes the TRiO program, one of the many Learning Communities throughout the District available to support students. And Dr. Herbert Kitchen relates the 40 years of scholarships provided by the Peralta Association of African American Affairs.

Peralta Association of African American Affairs Student Scholarship Reception, May 1

PAAAA 2015 Scholarship ReceptionThe Peralta Association of African American Affairs  (PAAAA) will host its 17th annual student scholarship reception on Friday, May 1, 2015 in the atrium of the District Office at 5:30pm.

PAAAA’s scholarship reception recognizes African American students attending Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College and Merritt College, who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills, and community service in the various communities where they live, work and study. Since 1998, PAAAA has distributed over $70,000 in scholarships to PCCD students to assist them in continuing their education.
Two students from each of the Peralta Colleges will receive a $500.00 scholarship award.

Join the festivities on May 1 and enjoy an evening of celebrating academic excellence, as we honor our Peralta students!

PAAAA Honors 2014 Student Scholarship Recipients

The Peralta Association of African American Affairs (PAAAA) held its 16th annual scholarship reception on Friday, May 2, 2014.

With a record number of applicants, PAAAA recognized nine African American students attending Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College and Merritt College, who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills, and community service in the various communities where they live, work and study.

The Peralta Association for African American Affairs (PAAAA) is a member of the Western Region Council on Black American Affairs (WRCBAA).

The Western Region of the National Council on Black American Affairs (WRCBAA) is an official regional body of the National Council on Black American Affairs (NCBAA) which is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

WRCBAA serves as a collaborative voice, promoting the academic success of African American students and the development and advancement of faculty, staff and administrators that work together for a common cause–effective educational opportunities and employment for African-Americans within community college systems, and is committed to ensuring that a quality higher education is available to all students.
