Bielanski was president of the District Academic Senate from 2004 to 2009 and president of the Academic Senate for Berkeley City College from 2005 to 2009, after serving as co-president from 2003 to 2005. From 2000 to 2004, he was an Articulation Officer when the college was still known as Vista Community College. Bielanski received his doctorate of education from St. Mary’s College.

“Because I have much experience in areas of student services, I know that I will be able to focus on what is important and necessary for our students. I look forward to serving on the Board of Governors,” Bielanski added.

Storm has been appointed as a student representative to the board. Storm is enrolled at both the College of Alameda and the University of California, Berkeley. “I am excited about this most honorable opportunity to continue to serve the students of California,” said Storm.

She has served as the communications officer for the California Community College Association of Student Trustees and as a member on the Board of Trustees for the Peralta Community Colleges District from 2010 until this year. She also was the secretary for the College of Alameda Associated Students from 2008 to 2009 and Vice President of Administration from 2009 to 2010. Storm also served as chair elect, secretary and interim senator for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, Region III in 2010.

“This appointment affords me the chance to lend my voice, ideas and passion to the education process, and to help ensure that others have the many opportunities that I have received through higher education. I am proud to represent the Peralta Community College District and be that testimony of all that Community College can do to change your life for the better,” added Storm.

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors sets policy and provides guidance for the system. The 17-member board formally interacts with state and federal officials and other organizations. The board also selects a chancellor for the system. Bielanski fills one of the two faculty positions on the board, while Storm will occupy the one of two student board positions. Storm is the voting member for the students.

Since 1964, the Peralta Community College District – Berkeley City College, College of  Alameda and Laney and Merritt Colleges – has served Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont by providing East Bay students of all ages with a range of educational programs and life-long learning opportunities.
