Distance Education Home

Welcome to the Distance Education website for the Peralta Community College District and its four campuses: Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College.

The PCCD DE initiative is designed to:

  • Assist the district in achieving it’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Support excellence in online teaching and learning
  • Reduce education gaps in student achievement
  • Ensure that all PCCD online and hybrid classes meet federal, state, and accreditation standards

Both Moodle and Canvas will be used for Summer 2018. Instructors will let their students know which platform will be used for their course. Students should check their student email and Moodle courses for messages from their instructors.


Go to the Peralta Portal to
Access Canvas, Email, & Apps

  • On the portal site, choose “Students” or “Faculty/Staff“.
  • Login using the same username and password as your Peralta Email.
  • Click the Canvas icon – it will appear as an app on your dashboard if you are teaching or enrolled in a Canvas course.
  • To find Canvas help information- click on ‘help’ icon  Canvas Help icon
