Information Sessions on Applying for F18-S19 Cohort

Applications for the Faculty Diversity Internship Program will be open from February 15th – 5 pm, March 30th, 2018.

In order to provide additional information about the program and application process, FDIP will host a number of information sessions. Here are the dates for information sessions that will occur at the Peralta Community College District Offices, 333 East 8th Street, Oakland, CA 94606. International Conference Room.   • Session #2: Friday, 2/10/2017, 10 am – 12 noon, Berkeley City College (Room 341, Teaching and Learning Center). 2050 Center St., Berkeley.
  • Session #3:  Friday, 2/24/2017, Friday, 4 pm – 6 pm, Berkeley City College (Room 341, Teaching and Learning Center). 2050 Center St., Berkeley.

Math Internship Placement Pilot

Job Title Intern Math Instructor for the Faculty Diversity Internship Program
Compensation Range from $42.34 – $52.92/hour. Salary placement based on education, experience and other provisions outlined in the District’s agreement with the Peralta Federation of Teachers.

The Peralta Community College District offers a number of voluntary fringe benefits to temporary, part-time faculty, including the ability to subscribe for medical and dental insurance in the District’s group coverage program and sick leave under certain conditions.

Job Description Summary Math Faculty Interns would teach a class specified by the math department and be mentored by a full-time faculty member in the discipline.
Minimum Qualifications Applicant must have earned at least half of the credits necessary to earn a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics,  Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
OR

1. Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
OR

2. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in either of the above
AND

3. A Master’s Degree in Statistics, Physics, or Mathematics education.
OR

4. May submit a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in Mathematics. (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).
OR

5. The equivalent qualifications. (Candidates who claim equivalency must provide conclusive evidence, as clear and reliable on the college transcripts as required on the District Equivalency Application Form. Refer to the Equivalency Procedures below. This is not a process to waive the minimum qualifications.)

AND

6. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications An interest in teaching developmental math, particularly statistics. A strong understanding and interest in how strong instruction can improve struggling math students. Some experience working with math students, especially those who have not previously performed well in classes.

For non-Master’s degree disciplines, please note that the District requires four years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience with an Associate’s degree.

Job Announcement: Librarian

JOB TITLE: Academic Library Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Under the supervision of the Berkeley City College librarians, the intern will perform a variety of tasks related to academic librarianship:

  • Create LibGuides (research guides) in subject areas
  • Assist librarians with building, organizing and promoting the BCC zine collection (some knowledge of zines is preferred)
  • Provide reference assistance to students via chat reference service, e-mail, and at the reference desk
  • Develop and teach library orientations under the supervision of librarians
  • Assist librarians with collection development through selection, weeding, and organization of materials

POSITION STATUS: open

TASK TYPE: Non-Archival

WORK TO BE DONE: On Site and Off Site QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Significant progress towards an MLIS degree
  • Understanding of RUSA guidelines and basic reference interview techniques
  • Understanding of ACRL information literacy standards and their application
  • Knowledge of library databases and educational technology (screencasts, LibGuides)
  • Ability to work both face-to-face and virtually
  • Ability to effectively communicate via e-mail and face-to-face
  • Respect for a diversity of backgrounds and experience
  • Interest in academic librarianship and community colleges

SEMESTER(S): Summer 2015, Fall 2015 HOURS: Can be determined by student’s availability but face-to-face hours must be completed during regular work hours. Monday-Thursday 8:30 am-5:00 pm
