Peralta Colleges Foundation Names New Interim

Executive Director, Nikki Lasley


OAKLAND, Calif., January 25, 18 Nikki Lasley is the newly appointed Interim Executive Director at the Peralta Colleges Foundation in Oakland, CA. She brings fifteen years of experience as an expert in educational philanthropy and innovative solution building. The Foundation supports four network schools within the Peralta Community College District: Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College. The Peralta College system provides accessible educational pathways for students of all ages and backgrounds via two-year degree programs, professional certifications, and more. Lasley will spearhead the Foundation’s core mission to increase programming and student scholarships throughout the four network colleges.

“Nikki brings compelling leadership, passionate commitment, and proven success in generating support for diverse student bodies,” Chancellor Jowel Laguerre, Ph.D., stated. “Nikki understands that education is the gateway to prosperity and the Peralta Colleges Foundation’s board bringing her on shows our commitment to investing in Peralta’s long-term financial health. We are so happy to have her on our team.”

Lasley notes, “As a first-generation college graduate, I am keenly aware of the power of education to change the trajectory of an individual, a family, and even a community.”  She adds, “I am also passionate about creating opportunities to learn for youth and adults alike who grew up as I did.” Creating avenues for community members to thrive is one of Lasley’s passions.

Previously Lasley led education initiatives at, managing the organization’s education strategy and implementation of’s largest STEM and education grants. Prior to joining, she served as Director of Local Engagement for GreatSchools where she worked to increase awareness of school quality and the importance of parent engagement. Nikki also served as the director of programs and assessment for the Stanford University-sponsored charter school in East Palo Alto and at the Stupski Foundation supporting district-wide reform across the country.

Nikki Lasley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Theory from University of California, Santa Cruz. She earned her Master’s degree in Education Policy and Management from the University of Connecticut. She currently lives in Oakland, CA, with her seven-year-old son.



Meet the Peralta Colleges Foundation new Board Chair, Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton

Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton

Sbeydeh Viveros-Walton is a seasoned public service professional with over a decade of experience in the public sector and an active East Bay community member. But most importantly, she is a great example of our community college programs at work. Originally, from Mexicali, Baja California Mexico, Sbeydeh relocated to the United States at the age of 17 to pursue higher education.

Sbeydeh is a proud community college transfer student from Chabot College and earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She went on to receive her BA in both Rhetoric and Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Public Administration from San Francisco State University with an emphasis on Urban Administration.
