Why Our Students Need Your Help

The cost to attend a Peralta college, indeed all community colleges in California, has increased dramatically in recent years due to the State of California budget woes. Today, it will cost a student taking 12 units at a Peralta college an average of $800 per semester in fees, books, supplies, and other related costs. Text books alone average $100 or more per class depending on the subject and whether the text is new or used.

That’s why our students, many of whom are first-generation college students, frequently need the assistance of a scholarship as they balance school, work, personal, and family responsibilities. And, while some 50 percent of our students receive some type financial assistance, at the present time the Foundation can only assist a few dozen of these worthy students. We can increase our support with the help of the community. That’s why we need you.


Program Grants

In addition to student scholarships, the Peralta Colleges Foundation raises funds to provide grants that support students in class-related projects and selected extracurricular activities that build leadership skills. These grants also assist faculty in developing new courses or improving existing courses, as well as supporting the purchase of equipment essential to a quality course. Both students and faculty apply for these grants through the Foundation’s established process.
