Course: Afram 38: Environmental Racism and Justice

Requirements: Successfully completed 6 or more units of Afram coursework at Merritt College, Matriculating full-time students with a 2.5 GPA or higher, Proof of student leadership and/or community service, no prior travel outside of the country

Dates:Student group likely to travel beginning of August 2017 (to be confirmed)
(Note: Groups generally depart for China on a Saturday (arriving next day), remain for 13 days, and then return to the U.S. on a Saturday (arriving same day) (e.g. depart Sat., June 11 and return Sat., June 25)

Requirements:For the second year in a row, Congresswoman Barbara Lee is co-sponsoring 6 students from each of the Peralta Colleges (24 students total) to attend a 2-week study abroad program in China this August. The cost is only $250, plus the cost of a passport for 2 weeks.This is a two-week study delegation targeting college students from the Congressional Black Caucus member districts to come to China during summer 2017. During the 14-day visit, in addition to the cultural visits, students are expected to learn about Chinese language, history, culture, economic development, clean energy and other important subjects by attending lectures in the Chinese University such as Beijing Language and Culture University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. CUSEF and Chinese partners would cover all the necessary group expenses including accommodation, transportation, sightseeing tickets and meals, etc. in China.

Cost: Program Cost is $2,500.00
The College will provide a scholarship for $2,250.00
The student is expected to pay $250.00 and any applicable course registration fee.

A student’s enrollment in a program of study abroad approved for credit by Peralta may be considered enrollment for the purpose of applying for assistance under Title IV. Title IV financial aid is federally funded aid such as Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans.
