Peralta News – College of Alameda Selects President

JJacksonThe Board of Trustees of the Peralta Community College District selected Dr. Jannet N. Jackson as president of College Alameda at its regular meeting last night. Dr. Jackson, who is currently Interim President at the college, will begin her three-year contract as President starting July 1, 2011.

Dr. Jannett Jackson received her doctorate from the prestigious Community College Leadership Program in Educational Administration at The University of Texas at Austin and holds a Masters in Education emphasis in Curriculum & Instruction and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Liberal Studies from CSU, Fresno.

Dr. Jackson has over twenty-seven years of experience in support services, instruction and administrative areas within the California Community College system and has served as the Interim President at College of Alameda since July 2010.

She has held several statewide advisory board positions including the California Community Colleges Instructional Officers (CCCIOs) South West Region’s representative to the Team of Specialist for basic skills, Academic Senate Educational Policies Committee, EEO, Diversity, & Title 5 Advisory Committee, and has co-chaired the Peralta District’s Distance Education Committee.

From 1998 to 2004 she served as Dean of Learning Resources Center at Fresno City College (FCC), with major responsibility for a $12 million dollar four-year construction & technology infrastructure project. Before assuming the duties of Dean, Dr. Jackson served eight years in faculty governance, with three years on the technology and curriculum subcommittees of the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges, culminating as FCC’s Academic Senate President.

From 1991 to 1998, she was a member of the Business faculty at Fresno City College, was the faculty rep for tech prep, was the department chair, served on the regional consortium for vocational programs and has published statewide curriculum for telecommunications.

Dr. Jackson is also a retired colonel with the California Army National Guard and a veteran of the Persian Gulf and Iraqi wars.
