Redistricting Trustee Areas

9 February 2022

Every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. For Peralta Community College District, this means we need to re-evaluate the boundaries of the seven areas from which our Board of Trustees serve. Redistricting determines which neighborhoods and communities are grouped together into a district for purposes of electing a Trustee.

We’ve posted information about the redistricting process on our current website at https://web.peralta.edu/trustees/redistricting/ and on our soon-to-launch new website which you can preview here:

https://explore.peralta.edu/boardoftrustees/redistricting

The websites include a link to the current working draft of the new area boundaries, which you can also find here.
The Board of Trustees seek input in selecting the next district map for our Board. You have an opportunity to share with the Board of Trustees how you think district boundaries should be drawn to best represent your community. You can contact Royl Roberts, Special Assistant to the Chancellor/Chief of Staff (interim), at rlroberts@peralta.edu or 510-466-7204 to find out more about how the process works.  Or you can use the attached form to email your suggestions to Chief Roberts.

The Board of Trustees will be holding public hearings to receive public input on where district lines should be drawn. The first public hearing was held on January 25, 2022 during the Board of Trustees meeting. As part of this hearing, Mr. Andrew Westall of BEAR Demographics & Research gave an overview of the Redistricting process which you can watch on YouTube here. The slides presented are posted here.
