PCCD Faculty Art Exhibit at St. Mary’s

15 November 2019

The Peralta Community College District – and BCC in particular – is contributing to Bay Area culture with an exhibit at the Saint Mary’s College Museum of Art featuring BCC faculty member Joe Doyle and former instructor Diane Rosenblum, entitled New Formalism in Painting and Photography.

The duo makes art collectively as “R&D” and in this show they present a collaborative work that extends the boundaries of painting and photography, merging them through digital manipulations. The exhibition includes seven digital paintings along with a large-scale installation photograph that demonstrates Doyle’s work as an “illusionist painter” along with Rosenblum’s expertise in composite photography.

The exhibit of R&D’s digital paintings continues through December 8th (so check it out!) and there will be an opportunity to meet the artists on Thursday, November 21, 2019, when Rosenblum and Doyle discuss their artistry and collaboration.

Joe Doyle is full-time faculty, teaching advanced digital printing at BCC.  Dian Rosenblum formally taught advanced photography at BCC as an Adjunct Instructor. More information about the exhibit and the St Marys College museum can be found at:  https://www.stmarys-ca.edu/saint-marys-college-museum-of-art

As Seen On TV: Roadtrip Nation Visits Merritt College

16 October 2019

Roadtrip Nation is coming to Merritt College! Come visit the big green RV on the Merritt College campus on Thursday, October 17.

The Roadtrip Nation Roadies are here to debut their newest career exploration tool, Roadmap to Careers—a free resource for all of our students! Swing by their RV outside of the Merritt College library between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to get the free login credentials and to hear more about Roadmap to Careers. Snag some swag and learn more about how this free online resource will help you take the next step toward your dream job.

You may have seen the big green RV of Roadtrip Nation on their PBS television series which started in 2004 and is still going strong. Roadtrip Nation combines reality television with career planning under the basic premise of “find what you love.”

Fun fact: did you know that Dr. Steve Pantell, Merritt College counselor and Articulation Officer, is a huge fan of the program and its online resources for career counselors? He enthusiastically connected Roadtrip Nation with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and after some negotiations the result is free access to the Roadtrip Nation “Roadmap to Careers” program for students at all community colleges in the state.

It’s going to be fun and educational! See you there!

Peralta Colleges FM Radio Station On the Air in July

2 February 2015

Peralta FM Station-1

For the first time in its 50-year history, the Peralta Colleges will have its own FM radio station to provide educational programming to the community and hands-on broadcast experience to our students.

The FCC granted the Peralta Community College District a Low Power FM Community Broadcast Station license (“construction permit”) after a lengthy application process. There was plenty of competition for the broadcast licenses following a rule change by the FCC, and Peralta’s Public Information Department was successful in its bid to broadcast on one of the two available frequencies in the Bay Area.

Beginning in July, you will be able to hear Peralta’s community radio station in the East Bay at 96.9 FM. The tentative call sign is KGPC.

If you would like to get involved in Peralta’s community radio station, please contact our Executive Director for Public Information, Communications and Media, Jeff Heyman, at jheyman@peralta.edu or 510-466-7369.

Don’t forget to tune into all the great programs on our Internet radio station, 9th Floor Radio, at http://www.9thfloorradio.com/.
