P-SPAN – Laney College Sustainability Symposium

The Peralta Community College District (Peralta District), the Institute for Sustainable Policy Studies (ISPS) and Sustainable Pacific Rim Cities (SPRC) along with Bay Area leaders in pre-disaster planning presented a special 2014 Resilient City and Sustainability Symposia commemorating the on-going efforts and partnerships around Sustainability and Resiliency work in the Bay Area. This one-day symposium highlighted representatives from these Bay Area Cities, local university/college researchers as well as industry leaders and professionals from the Bay Area involved in cutting edge sustainability work from community analytics to eco-water treatment systems. This event took place at Laney College, on April 25, 2014.

P-SPAN – Earth Week with 350 Bay Area at Berkeley City College

Berkeley City College continued Earth Week with “Dirty Energy/Clean Solutions”, a talk by Judy Pope, who serves on the Steering Committee of 350 Bay Area as Strategy Coordinator and as speaker and speaker trainer for 350 Bay Area’s speakers bureau. 350.org has been one of the most important groups raising the issue of Global Warming and organizing against the Keystone XL Pipeline. This event took place on April 23, 2014.

The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) and Berkeley City College (BCC) continued their “Not on the Test: The Pleasures and Uses of Mathematics” lecture series with “Music, Computing and People” a lecture by Dr. Ge Wang. Dr. Wang, assistant professor at Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), researches programming languages and interactive software systems for computer music, mobile and social music, laptop orchestras, and education at the intersection of computer science and music. He is the author of the ChucK audio programming language, is founding director of Stanford Laptop Orchestra (SLOrk) and of the Stanford Mobile Phone Orchestra (MoPhO). He also co-founded Smule, and is the designer of the iPhone’s Ocarina and Magic Piano. This event took place at Berkeley City College on February 12, 2014.
