Students: Welcome to the Fall 2021 Semester

31 August 2021

Welcome to the Peralta Colleges!  Education is a powerful path to achieving health and prosperity, and I’m so pleased you have enrolled for the Fall 2021 semester at District Office here in the Peralta Community College District.

We are here to support you every step of your educational journey. Please check in with your college Student Services office for any needs you might have.

We have Chromebook computers, WiFi hotspots, financial aid, tutoring, and other services available for you. Keep an eye out for free meals and fresh produce. We are here for you.

If your class is in-person on campus, you should know that we have a vaccination policy that needs to be followed. Here is the policy:

“As a condition of, and, for permission to access all properties controlled by the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) all students must provide proof of “full” COVID-19 vaccination (as defined by the U.S. Center for Disease Control) or submit a request for exception on medical, disability, religious grounds, or a deferral based on pregnancy. In addition, all non-COVID-19 vaccinated students will be required to properly wear Face Masks that always cover mouths and noses while on PCCD controlled property and must be tested weekly for COVID-19.”

To show proof of your vaccination, we suggest using the California Digital COVID-19 Record here: https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/.

To access a building on campus:

  1. You’ll need to pass a screening checkpoint.
  2. Use the app called Campus Shield (for Apple iOS devices, click here; for Google Play, click here).  Please download the app and register with your student email address (with @cc.peralta.edu).
  3. Before you come to campus, open Campus Shield and click “COVID Health Assessment” to answer a few questions that help assess your COVID status.

4.  After answering the screening questions, you should get a “green screen” COVID Health Assessment Badge like this that will allow you to pass through the checkpoint and enter the building or classroom.

If you do not get a “green screen” it means that your answers indicate a level of risk for COVID-19 and you will not be allowed to enter.  If you may have answered a question in error, we have kiosks on the campuses with staff available to help you.

If you don’t have a mobile phone: Go to a kiosk on campus to take the assessment and receive a hard-copy printout allowing you to pass the checkpoint.

Please visit the Safe Peralta website at http://safe.peralta.edu for information including upcoming opportunities for getting vaccinated, information for testing services, and more.

We look forward to seeing you this semester, whether on Zoom, on campus, or both!

Very best wishes for a successful semester,

Dr. Jannett N. Jackson

Interim Chancellor

This message was sent on behalf of Dr. Jannett N. Jackson, Interim Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District, to all incoming students on August 20, 2021. You can also read the email online here.
