Welcome to Board Spotlight, a brief re-cap of the bi-weekly meeting of the Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees.

At the October 20 meeting, Chancellor Laguerre update the Board on his visits to our colleges.

The Peralta Federation of Teachers recognized the outstanding work of our Human Resources Department in hiring 41 new full time faculty this year.

And Vice Chancellor of Finance Ron Little provided an update on our progress resolving external audit findings.

The Peralta Colleges Board of Trustees meet the second and forth Tuesday of every month. All meetings are open to the Public, and are broadcast LIVE on peraltaTV. Past meetings are available for viewing here.

Leading Candidate For Position of Chancellor

Jowel LaguerreOn behalf of the Chancellor Selection Committee and the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce that the Board has identified Dr. Jowel C. Laguerre as the leading candidate for the position of Chancellor of our District.  Dr. Laguerre is the Superintendent-President of Solano Community College District.  Attached is Dr. Laguerre’s background and accomplishments.

We very much appreciate the commitment and dedication of the Selection Committee and Dr. Fran White, our Search Consultant from Community College Search Services, in identifying qualified finalists. The Selection Committee members conducted their work under a tight recruitment and selection timeline, which allows the Board to keep the selection process on schedule.  The next step in the process is for the Board members to conduct a site visit to Solano Community College District.  The site visit will include Trustees, as well as managers, faculty, classified staff and students.  The President of the District Academic Senate (or designee) and the President of the Peralta Federation of Teachers (or designee) are also invited to participate in the site visit.  Arrangements for the site visit, which is anticipated to occur no later than the week of June 8, 2015, is underway and will be announced once finalized.

Peralta Matters – Union Leadership Program

This month, Jay meets the Union leaders who serve our employees. Matthew Goldstein of the Peralta Federation of Teachers describes his work defending the contract between the Peralta Colleges and the teachers. And Helena Lengel, chief steward for SEIU 1021 is pleased to serve the Classified staff. Unfortunately, representatives of Local 39 were unable to attend.

Welcome to Board Spotlight, a brief recap of the biweekly meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Peralta Community College District.

With the end of the summer semester, The Board of Trustees held their final meeting before the recess. They received a report from Stephanie Casenza of the Peralta Colleges Foundation. The Board honored outgoing Peralta Federation of Teachers president Debra Weintraub for years of work. And they debated the structuring of the Retirement Board.

The Peralta Board of Trustees meet the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Past meetings are available for viewing on the internet at peraltaccd.granicus.com
