Workshop: Student Learning, Teacher Beliefs

23 March 2016

Update (5/25016):

Agenda and Evaluation

Handout on Classroom Assessment Techniques

Lesson Plan: Group Activity

The world of community college is awash with terms like “Student Learning Outcomes” or “Teaching Philosophies,” and they can sound a bit theoretical or bureaucratic. Naturally, such language can dampen what ought to be a thoughtful and energetic approach to the work of instructors and educators, in general. In this workshop hopes to avoid this, as participants will learn how student learning assessments can guide their beliefs and practices as educators.

What: This workshop will present what student learning outcomes are and how they influence our beliefs about teaching and learning.

Who: Mario Rivas, Psychology; Jennifer Shanoski, Chemistry

When: Friday, April 8, 10 am – 12 noon

Where: Merritt College, S-203 (Campus Map and Directions)

Why Should I Attend?: For applicants, this workshop may not have direct application, but it will help in the formation of thoughtful syllabi and serve as an introduction to important community college issues and practices.

Who Should Attend?: Any interested FDIP applicants, interns, or other instructional faculty.

How to RSVP?

Questions?: Contact FDIP Coordinator, Scott Hoshida: 510-981-2897 or
