On November 18, 2015, a transfer workshop was held at College of Alameda’s Student Center to provide students with general information on transferring to the University of California, Berkeley, as well as other UCs and CSUs, such as San Francisco State University (SFSU). Present were Lin Larson from UC Berkeley’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions; Brittany Anderson, counselor at UC Berkeley; Camille Santana, former SFSU counselor who is currently a counselor at COA; and Angela Khoo, Peralta international student and academic counselor at COA and Merritt College.

Over 20 students (international and domestic) attended the event and many questions were answered regarding the transfer process, admissions requirements and advice on writing a personal statement. The event was hosted by COA’s International Student Club; however, it was open to all students.

"The event was very helpful and informative. I learned that I needed to pay attention to some bundle classes that needed to be taken in the same campus. I hope there will be more events like this, so we students can learn more about the transferring process." - Thinh Tu, International student from Vietnam at COA.

We will host another transfer workshop next April, 2016.

On September 23, 2015, the Office of International Education of the Peralta Community College District held a Study Abroad Fair at Berkeley City College. On its second year, the Peralta Study Abroad Fair is an event where students from the Peralta Colleges can learn about study abroad opportunities through a PCCD program, through another college, or through any of the participating vendors.

The fair lasted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and included a special presentation on Cuban Animation by popular Cuban Animator, Daniel Rivas, that was facilitated by Paul Bardwil of Global Education Foundation, the organization assisting Berkeley City College’s Spanish Study Abroad in Cuba Program that is scheduled to run in May 28 to June 4, 2016.

Facilitated by Drew Gephart of the Office of International Education, the event was well attended by students from all levels, including International Students who are also eligible to join in a study abroad program of their choice. Several vendors, including those from the Peralta Colleges, as well as the Office of International Education, were present to showcase and to answer questions about their study abroad programs.
