Staff Development Office Newsletter: Tu, 10/15/19

15 October 2019

Hello Peralta,

In addition to being Undocumented Student Action Week, Peralta is busy with professional learning opportunities across the district. BCC’s Wellness Center is putting on the second annual, Solidarity Mental Health Summit that will focus on incarceration and community; COA will host a Reading Apprenticeship Workshop (sponsored with 3CSN) on being transparent in our teaching; and Road Trip Nation  will visit Merritt on Thursday!!!

AND, next Tuesday, October 22nd, colleges have organized great flex days, and at the District Offices, we’ll have the first ever morning of professional development by and for classified professionals!

REMINDER: College Flex DaysPlease remember that Tuesday, October 22nd each college and the district center will have professional development activities! Please ask your local Professional Development Committee (PDC) for the schedule! Each of committee has been working hard to navigate the numerous initiatives, ideas, and innovations happening at each of the colleges. Please be patient!
Updated links to agendas will be posted HERE: SDO Newsletter, 10/15/19.

Teaching Tip: “Add a Streak of Lavender”The Laney Lavender Project created this excellent page, Resources for your Classroom that includes sections on Health Care ResourcesLatinx MonthAfrican American History Month, the Use of Language in Biology (Sex and Gender), and a lot more. Of course, you don’t need a special month to include a diverse range of imagery, examples, and people to help all of our students feel welcome. Thanks to the Lavender Project and our tour guide, Amy Bohorquez!
